Clean Eating

Most people may think that working out and exercising is key to losing weight and getting healthy. That is not a false statement, but it certainly is not the most important. From what I have been learning throughout my journey so far of getting healthy, eating right is key. Don’t get me wrong, exercising does the body good, but eating right does the body even better, in my opinion. Our bodies are what we put in them.
Clean eating is a new term to me that was introduced when I started my program, it is simply a lifestyle, not a diet. It is being aware of the foods we are consuming, focusing more on fresh natural foods, and less focused on processedveggie foods. When this was introduced to me, I thought I would never be able to commit to it, with a family to take care of and a job to attend to, was there really time and energy for this? To achieve my goal, I had to give it a try. To my amazement, it was much easier than expected, I feel healthier and more energized, and my family loves it!
Adapting to this lifestyle can be a challenge, but I will share here some successes I have found to be helpful.
1. PLAN. Plan out meals and snacks and create a grocery list.
2. EXPLORE. Use the internet. There are so many support groups, recipes, and ideas online, use them! This will make this process much easier and enjoyable. Pinterest is one of my favorites, there are so many ideas on there with pictures and offer a convenient way to save and track what you like.
3. DRINK WATER. Water is so important, not only is it good for you and flushes out your body, it will help subside the feeling of hunger, making you feel full. It is recommended to drink at least half your weight in ounces and shoot for a gallon a day.
4. ENJOY. Enjoy and embrace in the results. You will feel better, and you will have more energy!
5. BE WISE. Don’t stop living, going out to eat, or having a treat. Be smart about it. Pick your choices wisely.
Dessert is one of my weaknesses, through my clean eating journey; I have found a few great recipes to fight that craving. Here I share one of the simplest to prepare and you will not believe this is dessert! Give it a try!
Banana Dessert:Fruit
Slice one banana.
Drizzle with honey.
Sprinkle with cinnamon.

  1. What a great dessert to try! Since I am very restricted to what I can eat, I try to eat fresh or clean most of the time but I slip up. It is a hard diet to stick to! I am excited to try your dessert! Thanks for sharing.

  2. I applaud your new found lifestyle! I too had to take myself and my family down a similar road. Now days home cooking and whole foods seem natural to us. Eating out at restaurants has lost most of its allure, and usually has us in recovery mode for a few days after. We’ve also realized that much of the eating experience is the preparation of the food. What I mean is that the family time and activity of cooking the food is just as important and satisfying as actually eating the food.

And yes, we love bananas with honey and cinnamon! During the summer months I’ve actually placed them cut side down on a hot grill to make a wonderful caramelized version!

  3. I truly enjoyed reading your post! I am currently in the process of trying to change my eating habits, and getting more active at the local gym in town. I couldn’t agree with you more than having healthy eating habits are just as important as going to the gym. I look forward to learning more about clean eating 🙂

  4. Definitely agree with your steps 1-5 on tips to eating healthy. Working sun up to sun down everyday it would be very easy for me to just swing by the McDonalds on my way home from the field and load up on greasy food but instead, to make my evenings easier, I have a prep day for the whole week. Usually Sunday is my prep day. I grill up all my protein I am going to eat for the week so it is easily reheated and I don’t have to spend a lot of time every night prepping supper. Another big thing is I try to eat my supper as early as I can. If I don’t stay on top of this I find myself having most of my evening meals between 8 and 9 o’clock at night. Definitely not healthy to be eating that close to bed time. So again, great tips on how to eat healthy, this will definitely be a blog I follow along.

  5. Chelsea, you are right. Clean eating/eating right is a major determinant of our healthy than even working out. Unfortunately, most people think that they can eat unhealthy food then do more work out and exercises to subsidize their bad eating habit. A friend of mine joined a gym membership but a year down the road, had increased weight .Reason? Consumed more unhealthy food. So, eating right is the cornerstone of a healthy body.

  6. I have heard so much lately about clean eating and really enjoyed reading more about it in your post. With little ones I try to make healthier choices because I want them to grow up strong and healthy. It is important to eat the right foods and your children will too. My little guys actually eat almost all fruits and vegetables. They steal the sushi off my plate at restaurants and my 4 year old even “snuck” spoonfuls of smashed avacado the other day when I turned my back to flip the tortillas. I couldn’t be mad at him for sneaking that, but there went the guacamole. Although I make a lot of healthy choices for my family; I have not gone completely to “clean living”, because as you mentioned it seems tough with a family, school, and work. I definitely will try the recipe you posted and look forward to seeing more!
